About Martin DeBourge
Pronounced "dee borjhay"
I take an approach to music that is not neccessarily revolutionary, but is certainly worth repeating...
"Music is what moves you"
That being said, all music impacts us one way or another. It could be from our own CD players or whatever is on tap at your friend's house. The melodies that entered your mind while picking up your niece from choir practice have left an impression on you just as much as the odd sounding Stravinsky compositions that you thought you hated do!
In a nut shell - I listen to anything that strikes me as interesting. That could be straight ahead Metal, Prog Metal, Black Metal, Classic Rock, Folk Music, Indian Tribal Music, Mongolian Throat Singing, Turkish Gypsy Music, Regional Gospel Music, Hymns and yes even beatbox (this generation's phenomenon)
I've got a wealth of experience as a lead vocalist.
I started out when I was 16 with a band I put together "on the fly" called Kryer (out of Southern California). Next up was a busy time for me gigging with Spectra all around the Hollywood and Los Angeles area. I also tried my hand at producing and recording while with the short lived "Ragz 2 Riches" (members included Mike Gross and Les Deal, the son of Mick Mars from Motley Crue.
With Torman Maxt I was really given the opportunity to expand my range and hone my stage presence while performing at the best known L.A. clubs like the Roxy, Troubador, etc.
I recorded a full length album with the group that went on to sell quite a bit.
Mix in some scattered opportunities here and there: booking agent for Southern California's "Rock House", lead tenor positions with large choirs, Session work with half a dozen recording artists, owning my own business that specializes in rare music and preservation & finally my crowning achievment - proud father of three great kids
My vocal training is credited to Billy Purnell who teaches the Seth Riggs Technique
